Events, Classes, & Workshops

We are so excited to be in our new home where we have space to host events, parties, classes, and workshops again! We’ve started up our monthly stitch night again on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00 – 8:00 and will be announcing more social crafting days.

We also have some amazing opportunities to learn this fall with our class schedule. Below you will find our Fall 2017 Class Schedule with class details and enrollment information. Supplies for all classes are supplied unless otherwise noted. Space is limited, so register early to ensure your spot!

 

AMERICAN FOLK ART HOUSE PORTRAIT with Heather Sleightholm of Sleightholm Folk Ark – September 22nd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. $40 – Learn basic folk art techniques used by early American painters to create your own 4×4″ folk art scene with artist Heather Sleightholm. You will learn basic ways to use acrylic paint to create landscape features and dream up your perfect ‘New England’ home. The class is also an introduction into American’s rich folk art past and the techniques used by self taught artists who captured the people and places of early America. Register here.

 

CALLIGRAPHY AND LETTERING with Jeremy Luther, former professor at Kansas City Art Institute – September 23rd from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. $100 –  Come learn the fundamentals of letterform and produce your own hand-made calligraphic works! This class will define for the student the essentials and differences of calligraphy, lettering, and typographic disciplines. This will be followed by demos and exercises using both a traditional dip-and-splash calligraphic pen technique emphasizing the foundational structure of letterforms before moving on to a more contemporary look at popular lettering. The intent of this workshop will be to make it so the student can look at and appreciate good typography, as well as produce some of their own! Register here.

 

WEAVING PARTY with Natasha Ball from House Sparrow Fine Nesting – September 29th from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm. $55 – In this three-hour party-slash-workshop, you will learn the basics of woven tapestry and create your very own mini woven wall hanging. We will spend the evening working through basic weaving terms and techniques, including how to prepare your final piece for hanging. Register here.

 

 

BEGINNER CROCHET with Sherri Torrez – October 7th, 3:00 – 5:00 pm. $40 – Learn the basics of crochet and make a fun mug rug coaster to take home with you. Register here.

 

 

 

FALL ARRANGEMENT WORKSHOP with Katie Allen and Jenny Rousch of Anthousai – October 12th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. $100 – Learn how to make your own flower arrangement made of fresh seasonal blooms and locally foraged greenery. In this class we will walk you through the steps of how we create centerpieces, choose our color palette, where we get our flowers and discuss what makes an arrangement have interest. The class will run around 2 hours and we will provide you with a vase to arrange in, your own pair of shears to take home, an artful professional photo of you with your arrangement, and of course snacks!  BLOCK PRINTING PARTY with Natasha Ball from House Sparrow Fine Nesting – October 20th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. $45 – It’s the latest crazy to hit the handmade textiles world: block printing! And guess what. Natasha can teach you how, while also telling you funny textile jokes to make you laugh and laugh.

We will use a variety of inks and printing blocks, some carved by Natasha, in combination with common, everyday objects to create a one-of-a-kind yard of fabric. Register here.

 

INTRO TO LEATHER WORKING with Christian from Tallgrass Studios – October 21st from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. In this class, you’ll learn the basics of leather working including tools and techniques and leave with a creation all your own. Registration coming soon.

 

 

 

KID’S LEGO BLOCK PRINTING PARTY with Natasha Ball from House Sparrow Fine Nesting – November 4th from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. $35 – Using LEGO and a variety of inks and other printing materials, kids are invited to create a one-of-a-kind half-yard of fabric to use in other sewing and art projects. HAND-LETTERING 101 with Mina Habibi from Milk & Honey Creative – November 4th from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. $90 – Learn how to get started with hand-lettering, just in time to address all of your holiday cards! You will learn basic hand lettering techniques and take home Milk & Honey Creative’s favorite lettering tools! Register here.

 

 

HAND BUILDING ORNAMENTS with Kris Wright of Foxy Pots on Thursday, November 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. $55 – Let’s make ornaments! Customized ornaments are simple, fun keepsakes that are great as gifts or to grace your own tree.  We will hand build a few different styles of ornaments for you to customize to your unique style.  All supplies, clay and a choice of 4 glaze colors are included. WINTER WREATH WORKSHOP with Katie Allen and Jenny Rousch of Anthousai on Tuesday, December 5th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. $65 – Learn how to make a lush and beautiful winter wreath using fresh winter greenery, berries, and other unique textures. In this class we will demonstrate step by step  how to create a fresh greenery wreath so that it looks both artistic and organic. Each attendee will have the opportunity to create their own wreath and take it home at the end of the class! Register here.
